The SUU women’s soccer team’s 3-game home winning streak came to an end Friday afternoon at Thunderbird Soccer Field, following a 3-1 defeat to the Northern Colorado Bears.
Northern Colorado (10-6, 4-3 BSC) got on the scoreboard first in the ninth minute, courtesy of an Olivia Seddon strike that rattled off the post and found the back of the net. The Thunderbirds (4-11, 3-4 BSC) answered in the 32nd minute via a Jessica French goal that was set up by Payton Wells, evening the score.
The Bears scored in the 43rd minute, taking a 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
After failing to convert multiple chances in the second half, the Thunderbirds fate was sealed when Mariel Gutierrez of Northern Colorado scored in the 80th minute, giving the Bears the 3-1 lead which held until the final whistle.
SUU plays in its final home game of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m., taking on North Dakota. The Thunderbirds will celebrate the careers of the six seniors on the roster in a ceremony prior to the match.
