The SUU men’s basketball team won its regular season home opener on Thursday night, defeating San Jose State 81-69.
The T-Birds picked up their first win of the young season, moving to 1-2 overall. San Jose dropped to 1-2 overall.
SUU controlled the game for most of the first half, including an 8-0 spurt that put the T-Birds up 23-12 with six minutes remaining in the opening half.
SUU went into the break holding a 32-20 advantage.
Brandon Better led the T-Birds in the first half, scoring 15 points while draining 4-of-7 three pointers.
Despite a hot start to the second half for the Spartans, SUU was able to maintain its lead, which didn’t drop below double digits until seven minutes into the half.
The T-Birds held the lead throughout the second half and claimed an 81-69 victory.
Jadon Cohee was the leading scorer for SUU, dropping 19 points. Christian Musoko chipped in 10 points for the T-Birds.
SUU will be back in action on Tuesday, November 21 when they take on Benedictine University at Mesa at the America First Event Center. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. All games can be heard on KSUB 590 AM.
