The SUU women’s basketball team picked up another exhibition game victory on Friday night, defeating Concordia University, 82-62.
The Cavaliers took an early 10-2 lead in the opening minutes, but a Lady T-Birds’ rally tied up the score halfway through the first period. Despite tying up the score, SUU trailed 25-18 after one period.
After a strong second quarter, the Lady T-Birds took a 36-34 advantage into the halftime break.
SUU came out strong to start the third quarter, using a 10-0 run to push the lead to 52-39.
The Lady T-Birds finished off the rout in the fourth, claiming the 82-62 win.
SUU was led by Whitney Johnson, who scored 16 points. Rebecca Cardenas added 10 points and six assists for the Lady T-Birds in the win.
SUU will open regular season play on Friday, November 10 when they travel to Provo to take on BYU. The game will tipoff at 7 p.m.
In their first game of the 2017-18 season, the SUU men’s basketball team picked up an exhibition win over Concordia University on Friday night, defeating the Cavaliers 101-84.
The game started out with both teams keeping the game close in the first half, but SUU found momentum, taking a 60-38 lead into the halftime break, led by 17 points from Brandon Better. James McGee added 11 points in the opening half for the Thunderbirds.
During the second half the Cavaliers found momentum, cutting the lead to single digits. SUU was able to finish the game strong down the stretch, clinching a double-digit victory.
James McGee registered a double-double for the Thunderbirds, scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Brandon Better added 20 points in his SUU debut. Christian Musokuo scored 20 points as well for the Thunderbirds in the win.
SUU will open regular season play on Friday, November 10 on the road at Oregon State. Tipoff is slated for 8 p.m. The game can be viewed on the Pac-12 Network. All SUU men’s basketball games can be heard on the radio on KSUB 590.
